Class Blog: A Week of Epic Battles, Poetic Kennings, and Scientific Discoveries!
This week in Year 5.
In English, we have delved into Kennings Poems, a poetic technique used in Beowulf to create vivid imagery. The children enjoyed crafting their own kennings, playing with words to describe everyday objects in imaginative ways.
In Art, we turned our attention to the work of Claude Monet, focusing on his famous Haystacks series. The children have been exploring how Monet used light and shadow in his paintings, seeing how the same haystacks can look entirely different depending on the time of day or season. It’s been a fantastic opportunity to discuss how light affects the way we see colours and shapes.
We have also used CAD in DT to create our own badges for our Textiles unit next term.
Finally, in Science, we’ve been investigating the properties of materials. The children have been grouping and identifying materials based on their properties..
It’s been an exciting week of learning across subjects, with plenty of opportunities for creativity, analysis, and scientific exploration!
