Date: 8th Nov 2024 @ 3:54pm

We have had a fantastic week in Y5D this week.

We started the week with a visit from Sophie from Life Educaton, who came in to talk to us about how to be a good friend.

In English, we read Chapters 3 and 4 of The Last Bear and followed April's adventure to Bear Island. We have been looking at how the author Hannah Gold described Bear Island by picking out words and phrases that she used to build the atmosphere of the island.

In Maths, we tackled squared and cubed numbers. We've not only learned how to find them but also mastered using them in various problems. It’s been great seeing everyone’s confidence grow with these new skills!

In Science, we investigated solutes, solutions, solvents, and what it means for something to be soluble. Now, we can explain what happens when we mix different substances and why some things dissolve and others don’t.

In Geography we have been researching Polar regions, learning about their unique climates and the incredible wildlife that survives in these extreme conditions.

Finally, we continued to investigate hats in DT. We investigated how different hats are made, thinking about the material they were made of and how the different parts were put together. We also thought about the purpose of the hats and who the intended user would be, before analysing the pros and cons of a selection of hats in order to decide which type of hat would best meet our design brief.

Don't forget that next week is 'Anti-Bullying Week' and we will be coming to school on Tuesday 12th November wearing odd socks!

Have a lovely weekend everyone 😊
