Hi everyone,
What a fantastic and thought-provoking week we’ve had in Year 6! Here’s what we’ve been up to:
English:
We’ve completed our diary entries from Stanley’s perspective, capturing his emotions during his tense first meeting with the Warden. The children did a brilliant job bringing this moment to life, describing the Warden’s intimidating presence, the shocking use of rattlesnake venom nail polish, and Stanley’s ongoing struggles at Camp Green Lake. Their writing was full of suspense and fantastic character insight – well done, everyone!

Maths:
This week, we wrapped up our algebra unit, tackling our final challenges with confidence. From substitution to solving equations, the children have shown great resilience in mastering these tricky concepts. They’re feeling more and more high-school-ready by the day!

Design Technology:
As we concluded our healthy foods unit, the children reflected on everything they’ve learned – from nutrition to preparation techniques. We evaluated our recipes, discussing what worked well and how we might improve them next time, as well as how me might apply what we've learned to other forms of cooking and food preparation.

Children’s Mental Health Week:
We took part in a series of workshops to celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week, focusing on this year’s theme: Know Yourself, Grow Yourself. Through discussions and activities, we explored self-awareness, confidence, and strategies to support our well-being. The children engaged brilliantly and shared some wonderful insights. We even had a fascinating talk from rugby league star Lee Jewitt about positive mindsets.

Geography:
In Geography, we debated the sustainability of cattle farming and wider agricultural practices in the Amazon Basin. The children considered the impact on the environment, indigenous communities, and global food production, leading to some passionate and well-reasoned discussions.
