Year 1 have had a great week and have enjoyed meeting their new little elf visitors from the North Pole; Jingle in Y1R and Belle in Y1D!
Also, a huge thank you for coming in to see us on the parent’s evenings, it was so lovely to be able to catch up with many of you.
During our maths lessons this week, the children have been finishing off their addition and subtraction unit in maths by practising subtraction number sentences. The children have also been practising how to identify which number sentence is an addition sentence and which is a subtraction sentence by looking at the maths symbols.
In English, the children have been researching meerkats ready for our new English text. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the meerkats including writing about them and they found out some amazing facts.
In DT the children designed what they would like their hand muff to look like and they have created some beautiful designs for when they make their hand muff.
In Geography this week we have learnt the names of all 7 continents and have been able to locate them on the map of the world. The children are really enjoying learning the ‘Continent song’ too!
In History, the children created a poster to illustrate what Standish had in the past and what Standish has now, following on from their history visitor last week.
This week the homework is Sounds-write in their homework books and as usual they will receive their new reading book on Monday which can be read over the week. The children will have received their sharing book today for over the weekend to share at home.
Y1D unfortunately have not been able to go down to the forest this afternoon because of the amount of rain we had yesterday evening, however they have done their ‘Elf dash’ and completed some lovely forest school activities in class as well as some singing for their nativity.
Have a wonderful weekend and we will see everybody next week – Year 1 team.
