What an incredible week we’ve had in Year 4!

English

We wrapped up our text, Queen of Darkness, and took a deep dive into its themes. It was amazing to see everyone finding relevant evidence from the book to support their ideas—their analytical skills are growing stronger every day! The discussions were insightful, and the connections of the themes to real-life situations was truly impressive.

Maths

Fractions were the focus this week. Adding and subtracting fractions can be tricky, but we worked hard to master the techniques. By breaking problems down step by step, we discovered just how useful fractions can be in real life.

History

This week’s history lessons were all about battle formations! We explored the testudo, wedge formation, single line defence, weak centre formation, and orb formation. We didn’t just learn about them—we practiced how to get into these formations and debated which one was the strongest. It was fascinating to see how strategy plays a key role in defence and attack.

Art

Creativity was at its peak as we worked on our still life images. We focused on positioning objects on our page and experimented with different pencils to create shading and shadows. Observing how light hits objects at different angles helped us bring our drawings to life. Each piece of artwork showcased patience, detail, and an eye for composition—well done, Year 4!

Science

In science, we explored habitats and the threats they face. From natural disasters to human impact, we discussed the ways environments become endangered and how we can help protect them. Learning about the delicate balance in ecosystems made us realise the importance of conservation. You all shared brilliant ideas on how we can make a difference!

Homework

There is no homework set this week, just keep up the practice of times tables, focussing on the ones you find tricky!

Have a lovely and well rested Easter break!
