What an amazing week we’ve had in Year 5! From exciting lessons to fun activities, we’ve been busy learning and creating. Here’s a recap of everything we’ve been up to this week:

English:
In English, we’ve been writing about Jabir, a fascinating fictional character who started life as a fisherman and worked his way up to become a master carver, creating beautiful sculptures for the Caliph. We learned about his incredible journey and how he used his skills to transform his life and the lives of others. Our biographies are now finished, and we’re really proud of how they turned out!

Maths:
In Maths, we’ve been working hard on calculating the perimeter of various shapes, including rectilinear and compound shapes. We’ve had lots of practice solving different problems, and it’s been great to see how everyone’s understanding of these concepts is improving. Keep practising – the more you work on it, the easier it gets!

Science:
This week in Science, we explored the phases of the moon. We learned how the moon changes shape as it orbits the Earth, which was really interesting. The highlight was definitely our trip inside the Wonder Dome, where we were transported into outer space! We explored the solar system, learned about the planets, and had an unforgettable experience. Check out our pictures – it was like we were actually there!

History:
In History, we’ve continued our unit on the Ancient Islamic Civilisation. We’ve been learning about Baghdad, the ‘Round City,’ and how it became a centre of learning and culture. We also explored the life and teachings of Muhammad and the lasting impact he had on the world. It’s been fascinating to discover more about this important period in history.

Art:
In Art, we’ve been putting our creative skills to work with paper sculpture. Inspired by the unique styles of architect Zaha Hadid and paper sculptor Richard Sweeney, we’ve each created our own paper sculptures. Our final pieces are looking fantastic, and we’ve really enjoyed experimenting with the shapes and structures of paper to bring our ideas to life.

Forest School:
One of the best parts of the week was our Forest School session, where we made smores by the campfire. It was the perfect way to end the week – relaxing by the fire, enjoying toasted marshmallows, and learning how to safely cook over a flame. It’s always great to spend time outside and try something new!

Now it’s time for a well-deserved break over Easter. It’s been such a fun and busy week, enjoy yourselves and we'll see you in two weeks.
