This week we continued learning about the Chinese Lunar New Year. We read ‘The Magic Paint Brush’ by Julia Donaldson in Drawing Club and thought about ways to keep the paintbrush safe. The children have been very busy creating decorations for the classroom, showing great enthusiasm for the topic. We worked together to make a large lion mask which we used in our own Lunar New Year parade on Wednesday. The children were able to incorporate a dragon dance song which they learned in their music lesson; we even learned some dance moves! The children enjoyed tasting some different Chinese foods for their snack too – parades are hungry work! We found out that to celebrate Chinese New Year, some people gift each other money in a lucky red envelope, we discussed different ways to look after our own money such as purses or money boxes.
In Maths we have introduced numbers 6, 7 and 8. The children have had a go at finding and representing these numbers on a tens frame. We have also enjoyed singing counting rhymes to reinforce one more and one less.
In Sounds Write we are beginning to read and write words with 4 sounds such as: mend, camp and felt. I have been impressed to see the children transferring this skill to their independent work too.
Well done to all our award winners this week, we are very proud of you.
Have a lovely weekend 😊
