Hi everyone,
We’ve had another fantastic week in Year 6, filled with exciting learning and hands-on activities! Here’s what we’ve been up to:
English:
In Holes, we’ve now met the Warden and Mr. Sir, adding even more mystery and tension to Stanley’s time at Camp Green Lake. The children have enjoyed discussing these new characters and predicting how they might impact the story.

Maths:
We’ve started our algebra unit, and the class has done a great job tackling new challenges and understanding algebra as a mathematical language. This week, we’ve explored substitution, function machines, and forming algebraic expressions. The children have shown fantastic problem-solving skills and are growing in confidence with this brand new topic.

Science:
Our investigation into shadows was a huge success! We explored how the size of a shadow changes depending on the distance of the object from the light source. The children made excellent predictions and recorded their results like true scientists, demonstrating a strong ability to interpret information on line graphs and evaluate the results carefully.

Design Technology:
This week, we put our cooking skills to the test by making a healthy pasta sauce. After exploring several recipes over the last few weeks, the children worked brilliantly in teams, to carefully and creating some delicious (and nutritious!) sauces, using a variety of cutting techniques to prepare their ingredients. A great success!

Geography:
In Geography, we debated the advantages and disadvantages of tourism in Snowdonia, Ghana, and the Amazon Basin. The children made some brilliant arguments, considering the economic benefits as well as the environmental and social impacts of tourism in these regions.
