This week in Reception the children have been exploring the wonderful Julia Donaldson text, Stickman. They have used this book as inspiration for our Drawing Club lesson. The children have really impressed me this week as many have written labels and some have written captions to describe their drawings. They really are becoming writers – which has been wonderful to see.
This week we have started our new Art project, an Arctic collage. The children have been using their knowledge about Polar Regions to create a collage that looks like the Arctic. They have been exploring using different materials and colours and simple techniques, tearing up paper, pasting images and using straight and ripped edges. They particularly enjoyed adding glitter to their collages for an added effect of glistening snow!
In Maths, the children have been learning about shapes with 4 sides, namely squares and rectangles. They have been discussing their properties and how these two shapes differ from each other. The children have used this knowledge to search for these shapes in our environment.
In Sounds- Write, the children have learnt the new sounds, j and w and they are already putting these sounds into words. I have been very impressed with how many children have been using these sounds in their independent writing when they have been choosing to write and mark make. In RE, the children continued to learn about Christmas and that it is a Christian holy day that marks the birth of Jesus. They retold the nativity story using puppets and they created a painted picture of the stable and drew the different characters. They also made stars from playdough to represent the star in the story.
This week in PE, the children practised their climbing skills using the climbing frame. It was fantastic seeing the children climb higher than they did previously, with some of the children reaching the highest point possible.
Well done to our award winners this week. Homework has been set on Tapestry. Have a great weekend.
