It has been another fun filled week for Year 1!  They have enjoyed the drier weather which has allowed us to start our investigation into the seasonal changes of the oak tree. The children went outside to observe what autumnal changes they could see and then drew their observations into a booklet.

During our maths lessons, the children have been introduced to writing fact families for both subtraction and addition. The children showed us how they use the strategies previously taught to find all the facts for a given number sentence and even wowed us with their ability to work out the inverse as well.

In English, the children have come to the end of our text ‘Lost and Found’ and have spent the week writing their own retells of the story. The children have wowed us with their use of capital letters and full stops and also their use of adjectives with their retells!

In DT this week, the children have learnt about different types of fastenings and then we decided upon using velcro and a glue gun for when they make their own hand muffs.

In Geography this week we learnt that Antarctica is one of the seven continents. We learnt that Antarctica is the coldest continent and that not only do penguins live their but also a selection of birds, seals and orcas in the surrounding sea.

In History, the children were very lucky to have a visitor who told them all about Standish in the past. We learnt that Standish had two cinemas, a mine and Alberts once used to be a hospital; for soldiers in the war. The children were then able to ask the questions that they had written the previous week

This week the homework is MyMaths and as usual they will receive their new reading book on Monday which can be read over the week. The children will have received their sharing book today for over the weekend to share at home.
