This week in Year 5, we’ve had a busy time with lots of exciting learning across different subjects!
In English, we’ve continued our reading of The Golden Horsemen of Baghdad. We’ve been focusing on how the author uses language to give us clues about the characters. It’s been really interesting to see how the words and descriptions can help us understand more about the people in the story, even without the author telling us everything directly.
In Maths, we’ve wrapped up our unit on decimals and percentages. We’ve all worked hard on understanding how these are related and how to calculate them. Now, we’re moving on to area and perimeter, which will be a fun challenge as we start working with shapes and measurements!
In Art, we’ve been inspired by the work of the famous architect Zaha Hadid. We’ve created mood boards with ideas from her incredible buildings, looking at shapes, lines, and structures. These will be used as inspiration for our final design project, and we’re all looking forward to bringing our ideas to life.
In Science, we answered the question: Is there a pattern between the size of a planet and the time it takes to orbit the sun? After doing some research and looking at different planets, we discovered there isn’t a clear pattern between size and orbit time. However, we did find a pattern between the distance of a planet from the sun and how long it takes to complete an orbit.
In Forest Schools, we’ve continued to explore the outdoors and have been getting ready for some fun activities. This week, we had an important fire safety talk in preparation for making s’mores next week. Everyone’s really excited about that, but safety first!
Finally, in History, we’ve been learning about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the origins of Islam. It’s been a really thoughtful topic, helping us understand more about different beliefs and how they shape the world today.
We've had a great week, enjoy your weekend and to all the mothers out there. Happy Mother's Day!
