Hi everyone,
We hope you all had a fantastic half-term break! It’s been wonderful to welcome the children back, and they’ve jumped straight into another exciting term of learning. Here’s what we’ve been up to this week:
English:
We’ve started a brand-new book: Darwin’s Dragons by Lindsay Galvin. This thrilling adventure follows Syms Covington, a young cabin boy aboard Charles Darwin’s famous voyage on the HMS Beagle. After being shipwrecked, he discovers mysterious creatures on an unexplored island – could they be dragons? The children are already hooked, and we can’t wait to see where the story takes us!

Maths:
Picking up where we left off before half-term, we’ve continued our work on decimals, now focusing on multiplying and dividing them. This has really tested our number skills, and we’ve been reminding ourselves how important our times tables are—so keep practicing at home!

History:
Our new history unit is all about the Industrial Revolution and its impact on our local area. Before we can dive into the fascinating changes of this period, we’ve been learning about the Victorians—who they were, how they lived, and why their reign was such a turning point in history. The children have been fascinated by what life was like for people in the 19th century!

Art:
We’ve begun an exciting new art unit on L.S. Lowry, the famous artist known for his industrial scenes of northern England. We’ve learned all about who he was and his unique painting style, which featured ‘matchstick men’ figures, smoky factory landscapes, and scenes of everyday working-class life. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be developing our own Lowry-inspired artwork!

It’s been a fantastic first week back, and we’re excited for all the learning to come. Have a lovely weekend!
