What a fantastic week it has been in Year 1! Your children have been hard at work, exploring exciting topics across all their subjects. Here's a little insight into everything they've been up to:
English: Exploring the World of Peter Rabbit
This week, we concluded our reading of the beloved story Peter Rabbit. The children immersed themselves in the tale, and to extend their understanding, they created beautiful story maps. These visual representations will help them retell the story in their own words, building both comprehension and creative skills.
Maths: Measuring Up
In maths, our young learners delved into the concepts of length and height. They engaged in hands-on activities, comparing and measuring various objects. It’s been wonderful to see them mastering the use of vocabulary like "shorter," "longer," "taller," and "smaller."
Geography: Villages, Towns, and Cities
We took a journey through the UK to discover the differences between villages, towns, and cities. Through interactive discussions and visuals, the children developed a better understanding of where people live and how communities differ.
Science: Nature’s Diversity
In science, we explored the fascinating world of trees! The children learned to distinguish between evergreen and deciduous trees, and they loved identifying examples during our nature-themed activities.
Art: The Importance of Shape
Our young artists have been focusing on how shapes play a key role in sketches. Through fun and engaging exercises, they experimented with shapes to create the foundation of their drawings, bringing imagination to life.
KS1 Mother’s Day Assembly
A heartwarming highlight of our week was the KS1 Mother’s Day assembly. The children put on a spectacular performance, celebrating all the wonderful mums and caregivers in their lives. Their singing, speaking, and creativity left us all feeling incredibly proud.
It has been a delight to witness their enthusiasm and growth in all these areas. Thank you for your continued support in their learning journey. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!
Warm regards, Year 1 Team
