28/02/25

Date: 28th Feb 2025 @ 2:32pm

It has been so lovely to welcome everyone back after half term. This week we have started some new units of work and the children have been fully engaged and participated well in all the tasks we have set.

In English, we started looking at a non-fiction text on 'The Great Fire of London'. We explained to the children that non-fiction texts are based on facts, actual events or real people so the information in this book will be factual. So far, we have used the text to find out what London was like during 1666.

In Maths, we have started 'Multiplication and Division'. The children have been comparing equal and unequal groups and have been looking at repeated addition and turning this into a number sentence using the multiplication symbol.

E.g.

3 + 3 + 3 = 9

3 x 3 = 9

In DT, the children baked a lemon, banana or carrot cake. We decorated them with icing and a delicious topping and then tasted and evaluated them.

In History, we looked at a page from Samuel Pepys' diary. Samuel Pepys worked for the King and survived the fire. He documented an important span of the 17th century with detailed accounts of the Great Fire of London. The children were fascinated to explore this historical artefact.

In Science, the children did some independent research on different habitats and then created a fact file to showcase the information that they had collected.

This week the children took part in a sponsored run to raise money for Wigan and Leigh Hospice. Mr Cartwright, one of our parents, who helped organise the run, ran alongside each year group on the day. Each child received a medal for their achievement and contribution to the cause.

Next Thursday 6th March is World Book Day. To get involved, the children have been asked to come dressed as their favourite book character, dress in a colour inspired by a book, or wear comfy clothes for a relaxed and fun day.

Have a lovely weekend! 😊
