We've had an incredible week in Year 5 this week!
This week in Science, we’ve been investigating thermal conductors and insulators! The children explored the properties of different materials and thought hard about why designers choose to make different household objects out of a certain material. We talked about why pans were made of metal but the handles might be made of wood or plastic and how our winter coats keep us warm by insulating our bodies.
In DT, we made paper pattern mock-up prototypes of our hats in preparation for our next step of making the hat. We also created our final design and used tape measures to find the circumference of our heads.
In writing, the children embraced the role of April from The Last Bear. Their diary entries were outstanding—filled with thoughts, feelings and chatty language. I’m incredibly proud of how well they’ve captured her voice and emotions.
Geography this week has taken us on an ocean adventure! We’ve explored the names, locations, and importance of the world’s oceans. From the icy Arctic to the warm Indian Ocean, our budding oceanographers are diving deep into understanding our planet. 🌍
Drama was a highlight this week! The children embodied characters from Macbeth, bringing the story to life with enthusiasm and creativity. We used a technique called 'Powerful Persuasion' and used facial features and body language to convince our partner that our grandfather was Father Christmas!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone. We will see you on Monday 😊
