It has been another busy week this week for Year 1 and they have enjoyed the little glimpse of snow we have had. This has led to some lovely discussions surrounding our weather at this time of year and they have been relating this to their science learning on seasons.

During our maths lessons, the children have been introduced to the subtraction symbol and have begun writing subtraction sentences within 10. The children have been learning a technique using their part-whole models and counters to write the subtraction sentences and they have mastered this technique brilliantly.

In English, the children are coming to the end of our text ‘Lost and Found’. We have finished reading our story and have created a story map ready for our rewrite next week. The children have also been learning all about nouns and adjectives and how they can use them in their rewrite.

In DT this week, the children investigated which material would be fit for purpose for making their hand muff. They wrapped a frozen latex glove within three different types of material to detect which material was the warmest, most comfortable and provides the best protection from the ice.

Year 1 have started their new Geography topic this week and they have been introduced to what a continent is and, in History they have been thinking and writing down questions to ask our Historian visitor, who is coming next week, to talk to the children all about Standish in the past.

This week the homework is Sounds-write and will be stuck in their homework books and as usual they will receive their new reading book on Monday which can be read over the week. The children will have received their sharing book today for over the weekend to share at home.

Have a wonderful weekend and we will see everybody next week – Year 1 team.
