#LetGirlsPlay
To mark International Women’s Day, our KS1 and KS2 girls at Wood Fold have participated in ‘girls only’ football sessions in the ball zones, with the emphasis on developing skills, having fun and improving teamwork. Also, during lunchtimes, some of our KS2 girls coached some of the younger girls lower down the school with playing football (as part of the Play Leader scheme). Girls across school in both KS1 & KS2 took part in after-school football clubs. Once again, emphasising on increasing confidence, developing skills and preparing for upcoming competitive football events.
Throughout the school year, girls from Wood Fold have engaged with participation and developmental football events in the Wigan borough and on the 7th March, as part of the biggest football session ever #letgirlsplay, some of our Year 3/4 girls went down to Laithwaite Park in Wigan. Here, not only did the team have the chance to wear their own girls football kit, but the girls engaged against other schools in non-competitive games as well as taking part in football activities hosted by Wigan Athletic. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and couldn’t wait to tell their friends back in school all about it. As well as this, back in school, girls across school took part in football activities in their PE lessons, showcasing fantastic dribbling, shooting and passing.
Girls Take Over Wigan Youth Zone
Some of our Year 6 girls (along with girls from other schools in the local area) took over Wigan Youth Zone. The girls took part in fun and engaging activities, which included breakdancing, darts, football, tag rugby and lacrosse. The girls had an amazing time and were very grateful to have been let out of school to take part in the event! They all went away with long lasting memories of the day and couldn’t wait to tell their friends all about the day when they arrived back at school.
