We’ve had a wonderful week in Year 1, full of new learning experiences and exciting topics. Here's a glimpse into what your children have been working on:
English We have continued to work from our text Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. The children have explored the story further and have made some imaginative inferences about the story and have predicted what Peter Rabbit will do next!
Maths In maths, we have continued to focus on grouping tens and ones within numbers up to 50. The children have also been looking at the number line to 50 and plotting where missing numbers will be on the number line. Finally, the children have been learning how to find one more and one less of a given number within 50.
Geography The capital cities of the UK have been a part of our field work this week, the children explored each city then as a class we recorded which city was each child’s favourite and recorded our results on a tally chart.
Science In science, we continuing exploring the world of plants. The children all planted their own Sweet pea seed and have recorded step by step how to plant and help grow the seed in their plant diaries. We will continue to watch and record how their plant grows over the term.
Art This week in art, the children have been practising how to create tone and the importance of line when sketching, and how to incorporate different types of line to create their final piece of work this term.
As a school we also celebrated World Down’s Syndrome Day by wearing our bright and odd socks. Each child has planted a Sunflower seed and has been watching it grow. The children will bring their seed home today to nurture it at home.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Warm regards, The Year 1 Team
