Hi Year 5,

We’ve come to the end of another busy half term, and what a fantastic time we’ve had! In history, we’ve wrapped up our unit on the Anglo-Saxons. Our last few lessons were all about where we get the names of the days of the week from – did you know they’re named after Anglo-Saxon gods? We also explored how place names around the UK have roots in Anglo-Saxon terms. Next time you see places ending in “-ham” or “-ton,” you’ll know those are Anglo-Saxon!

As part of our community project, we did a brilliant job helping out in the local area with litter picking and collecting rubbish. It's so important to keep our community clean, and you all did such a great job making a positive difference.

In art, we’ve been making great progress on our final pieces – our own impressionist landscapes inspired by Claude Monet. The use of colour and brushstrokes has been amazing, and I can't wait to see your finished masterpieces!

Now it’s time for a well-deserved break. I hope you all have a lovely half term – take some time to recharge, relax, and enjoy yourselves.

See you after the holidays!
