Hi Year 5!
We’ve had such a fantastic time this half term, especially with all the exciting things we’ve been learning and doing together.
In our last few history lessons, we finished up our unit on the Anglo-Saxons. Did you know that many of the names of the days of the week come from Anglo-Saxon gods? For example, Tuesday is named after Tiu, the god of war, and Wednesday comes from Woden, another powerful god. We also explored how lots of places around the UK have names that come from Anglo-Saxon terms, like places ending in “-ham” (meaning village) or “-ton” (meaning town). So, next time you're travelling around, see if you can spot any Anglo-Saxon place names!
On top of that, we wrapped up our community project, where we worked hard to make our local area cleaner by picking up litter and collecting rubbish. It was such a great feeling knowing that we helped make a difference in keeping our environment tidy and healthy. A big well done to everyone who took part!
In art, we’ve made brilliant progress on our final pieces. We’ve been creating our own impressionist landscapes inspired by the artist Claude Monet. The children's use of colour, light, and brushstrokes has been absolutely amazing – we can't wait to see how they turn out!
Now, with half term coming up, it’s time to relax, recharge, and enjoy some well-deserved rest. Whether you’re heading out on an adventure or simply chilling at home, make sure to take time for yourself.
Have a wonderful half term, Year 5! We can’t wait to hear about all the exciting things you get up to when we come back.
See you soon! 😊
