This week has been a very busy week in Reception.
The children enjoyed wearing odd socks for 'Odd Socks Day', to represent Anti-bullying Week. We have taken part in creating a school display for this by painting and colouring red flowers. We are looking forward to seeing the finished product. The children went into their first KS1 assembly where they watched the older children perform scenarios based on kindness. They all sat in assembly really well and enjoyed watching the older children.
In Maths, the children have been learning positional language, including, under, behind, next to and so on. They have enjoyed learning this by using a teddy around the classroom to demonstrate their understanding.
In English, the children have been exploring the text, The Blue Penguin, where they have drawn and written about a snowy scene and they have designed a suitcase for the penguin. The children have been learning all about penguins, and in particular Emperor penguins. They were amazed to find out that they can be as big as 1.3 metres tall. They learnt about what they eat and also about the penguin life cycle. We even made a life size penguin to keep in our classroom to show just how big the penguin can be. The children have enjoyed standing next to it and comparing their heights to that of the penguin.
I was very proud of the children on Thursday, when they demonstrated different areas of our classroom during our open day.
In PE this week, the children have been practising the overarm throw. The children have used beanbags and foam javelins whilst aiming and throwing at the targets. Well done on another great week Reception B.
Homework is on Tapestry.
Have a great weekend.
