This week we have started our new topic, ‘It’s Cold Outside’. We have been reading the book ‘The Emperor’s Egg by Martin Jenkins and finding out facts about emperor penguins. We were surprised to find out how tall male emperor penguins can be and made a life size penguin to find out if we were taller or shorter than it!

We filled our pom pom jar again this week and toasted marshmallows in the forest for our treat. The children were very sensible and enjoyed learning about how to build, light and extinguish a safe campfire.

The children enjoyed wearing odd socks for 'Odd Socks Day', to represent Anti-bullying Week. We have taken part in creating a school display for this by painting and colouring red flowers. We are looking forward to seeing the finished product. The children went into their first KS1 assembly where they watched the older children perform scenarios based on kindness. They all sat in assembly really well and enjoyed watching the older children.

In Maths, the children have been learning positional language, including, under, behind, next to and between. We have also begun to subitise to 5. In English, the children have been exploring the text, The Blue Penguin and planning adventures for Blue Penguin. We even designed him a friend to stop him feeling lonely.

We rounded of the week by taking part in a webinar with lots of other schools where an engineer called Sophie talked about her job and told a story about bridges.

I was very proud of the children on Thursday, when they demonstrated different areas of our classroom during our open day they were definitely walking, talking adverts for our school!

Well done to our star of the week and dojo winners.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Harris.
