Hi everyone,

It’s been another busy and exciting week in Year 6! Here’s what we’ve been up to:

Maths:
We’ve been continuing our work on fractions, decimals, and percentages, with a particular focus on percentages this week. The children have been working hard to solve problems involving percentage of amounts and are really getting the hang of linking and converting percentages to fractions and decimals.

English:
We’ve completed a thrilling story retell of the moment Syms Covington is washed up on the Galápagos Islands in Darwin’s Dragons. The children captured the intensity of the scene brilliantly, especially the dramatic moment when Syms comes face-to-face with the mysterious winged beast and carried off in the clutches of it's tremendous claws!

Grammar:
We’ve tackled some tricky new grammar concepts this week, including how to identify and use active and passive voice. The children have also been learning how to use semi-colons correctly - it's been lovely to see this applied to our writing.

Art:
In art, we’ve been practicing the painting techniques of L.S. Lowry, focusing on the primary colours. Did you know that he only used the primary colours plus black and white in his paintings? The children explored with these colours, looking closely at tints, tones and shades. Their work is starting to really reflect Lowry’s unique style.

Science:
We’ve built on our knowledge of electricity by exploring different types of circuits: parallel and series.  It’s been brilliant to see them working so scientifically, showing a keen interest in how these circuits work and what certain changes and adaptations do to them!

Well done Year 6! Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you on Monday.
