Hi everyone,
It’s been another exciting and busy week in Year 6! Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
Maths:
We’ve started our brand-new unit on decimals, and the class is already making great progress! This week, we explored place value in decimal numbers, ordering, comparing and rounding decimals, and linking them to fractions. The children have impressed us with their problem-solving skills and are excited to take on even bigger challenges as we deepen our understanding of decimals in real-life contexts.

English:
Things are getting intense in Holes! Stanley and Zero have made a dramatic escape from Camp Green Lake and are doing everything they can to survive in the harsh desert. The children have been gripped by this section of the story, discussing themes of friendship, survival, and resilience. They’ve made some brilliant predictions about what might happen next - it's almost as if some of them have seen the film!

Geography:
We’ve now completed our geography unit by summarising everything we’ve learned about Snowdonia, Ghana, and the Amazon Basin. The children created fantastic mind maps to showcase their knowledge and tackled their final enquiry question, comparing the three regions. Their understanding of climate, biomes, land use, and sustainability has been incredible!

Music Day:
We had an amazing Music Day this week! From some fantastic costumes (highlights included The Spice Girls and Lady Gaga!) to exploring new genres of music, it was a day full of creativity. The children loved making digital music using GarageBand, creating surrealist Beatles-inspired artwork based on Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and coming together as a school to sing. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and talent shine!

Finally, it’s been a pleasure to welcome so many visitors into school this week and share all the fantastic learning happening in Year 6. We are incredibly proud of our children every single day, and it’s always a joy to showcase their amazing achievements. Well done, everyone!
Have a half term everyone, rest up and we look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks!
