We’ve had a wonderful and enriching week in Year 1, full of new learning experiences and exciting topics. Here's a glimpse into what your children have been working on:

English We began reading the delightful tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. The children explored Peter's mischievous character by making inferences about his actions and personality. They also made predictions about what might happen after Peter ventures into Mr McGregor’s garden—plenty of imaginative ideas were shared!

Maths In maths, we focused on grouping tens and ones within numbers up to 50. The children practised partitioning numbers and worked on identifying tens and ones in different representations. This hands-on learning is building their confidence in understanding place value.

Geography The capital cities of the UK were the highlight of our geography lesson this week. The children located London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Belfast on maps and learned some fascinating facts about each city.

Science In science, we explored the world of wild and garden flowers. The children identified and named various flowers, discussing their features and how they grow. We even looked at some flowers found in Beatrix Potter’s beautiful illustrations.

PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) This week, we introduced the topic of money—what it is, how it is used, and why it is important. The children engaged in discussions about spending, and making choices with money.

Art This week in art, the children created their own profile page about Beatrix Potter. They learned about her life, her work as an author and illustrator, and her love of nature and animals. The children then designed beautifully decorated pages, showcasing key facts and some illustrations inspired by her famous characters.

It has been a joy to see the children so engaged in their learning this week. Thank you for your ongoing support at home—it makes such a difference!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Warm regards, The Year 1 Team
