What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Year 5! In Art, we’ve been exploring the world of Claude Monet and trying our hand at impressionist painting. The children have been learning how to use short, rapid brushstrokes and experimenting with colour to capture the effects of light – just like Monet! Some of the landscapes they’ve created are absolutely stunning.
In History, we’ve dived into the fascinating world of the Anglo-Saxons. We explored their beliefs and learnt about the mysterious burial site at Sutton Hoo. The children were amazed by the treasures found there and what they tell us about life during this time. The Anglo-Saxon gods and their connection to nature also sparked some brilliant discussions.
We’ve also wrapped up our work on the classic poem The Lady of Shalott in English. The children have done a fantastic job analysing the poem, and we’ve had some thoughtful conversations about the themes and imagery.
In Maths, we’ve been busy sharpening our addition, subtraction, and estimating skills. The children have shown great progress and are becoming much more confident with mental calculations too.
