Hi everyone, and welcome back!
We hope you all had a fantastic break. It’s been wonderful to see the children back in school, ready to dive into an exciting new term. This week, the snowy weather has brought lots of fun (and a few chaotic starts to the day!), making it a memorable start to the year.
Here’s what we’ve been up to in class:
English:
We’ve started a brand-new book: Holes by Louis Sachar. The children are already intrigued by the story and characters, and we’ve had some brilliant discussions about the themes and setting. We've started by exploring the main setting of the book: Camp Green Lake. It's safe to say that at this point, it's not a place any of us would like to visit!

Maths:
In Maths, we’ve begun exploring ratio. This week, we’ve focused on understanding what ratios are and how to represent them in different ways. The class has done a fantastic job applying this knowledge to practical problems, including applying this knowledge to a range of contexts alongside fractions and decimals.

Design Technology:
Our new DT unit is all about healthy eating. We’ve started discussing the importance of balanced diets. The children are looking forward to designing and creating healthy snacks in the coming weeks, and had a fantastic time taste-testing a range of foods on Thursday afternoon.

Geography:
In Geography, we’re comparing and contrasting regions across the globe: Snowdonia National Park, Ghana and the Amazon Basin. We started by exploring key features of different regions, focusing particularly on the locational knowledge that we can uncover about these three very different regions.

Science:
This week, we investigated how light moves in straight lines. Through hands-on experiments, the children discovered how light travels and used their scientific skills to design their very own experiment, justifying their findings with their very own scientific evidence.

It’s been a brilliant start to the new term, and we can’t wait to continue with these exciting topics. Stay warm, and have a lovely weekend!
