What a lovely start to the Spring term Year 1 have had! The children have returned to school refreshed from their break and ready to learn.

We have started our new text ‘Meerkat Mail’ in English and the children have been busy making predictions about the story and learning all about the new characters of the story.

In maths the children are working on place value within 20 and are recognising and becoming more familiar with numbers to 20 including making numbers within 20 with resources such as base 10 and ones, ten-frames and numicon.

In DT the children enjoyed describing and taste testing different types of fruit in the lead up to making their fruit salads for the residents at the residential home.

During science, the children have been continuing their learning on the four seasons of the year and looking at the order of the seasons and which season we are currently in. The snow arrived just in time for the children to look at the season of Winter and they have been able to go outside and play in the snow and discuss other signs of Winter.

The children have learned all about the equator in Geography and where the Northern and Southern hemispheres are, including where to plot them on a map of the world.

Homework this week is Mymaths and the children will have their sharing book for over the weekend.

The children have all brought home this week a Year 1 set of high frequency words. These are for you to keep and practise as and when you can.

We hope you all have a lovely rest over the weekend.

Year 1 team.
