Year 1 have had a wonderful week of learning! During our maths lessons, the children have been finding systematic number bonds of a given number within 10. This learning step in our maths is quite tricky, however the children have embraced the new challenge and have been able to find the systematic number bonds successfully.

In English, the children have continued to enjoy our new text ‘Lost and Found’. They have been predicting how the boy in the story can help the penguin and they have been learning some facts about penguins to create their very own penguin fact file. The children are still showing us how they can consistently include capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in their sentences.

In DT, the children have continued to investigate which products they could make that will keep their hands warm during the cold Winter months on the yard and they have now decided which is the best product that they can make in school, to meet this design brief.

As well as our wonderful new learning the children have done this week, they had a lovely visit from Rainbow ward on Monday. The staff from the ward wanted to present the children with a beautiful picture of how Hector the Rocking Horse has been refurbished to his original, amazing self with the money Year 1 raised in their sponsored walk at school whilst they were in Reception class. The staff wanted to say a huge thank you to the children and families for making the refurbishment of Hector possible. The staff also announced the four winners of the drawing competition and those four winners received a prize for their artwork.

The children also had a visit from the Life Education’s Sophie, who introduced them to Harold the giraffe. Harold the giraffe taught the children all about the importance of being healthy! The children learned all about healthy eating, exercise and getting a good night sleep.

This week the homework is Sounds-Write activities in their homework books and reading their reading book every day. The children will receive their new reading book on Monday.

Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe, we will see everybody next week – Year 1 team.
