This week we completed our Diwali topic and have been learning all about Bonfire Night and the many traditions associated with it. The children created firework pictures using glitter and pastels and made firework patterns in the tuff tray. They recorded their knowledge of bonfire night in their learning journals this week and I was very impressed with the care they are beginning to take with their illustrations.

In English this week, the children have explored a firework poem. They learnt some exciting new vocabulary and then even designed their own firework. They accompanied their drawings with CVC words such as; hot and big and some children challenged themselves to write a short caption. In phonics we have continued with d, e, f and v and will be introducing a new set of sounds next week. Now the children know how to write more sounds, it is great to see them attempting to write a wider range of words – it is an exciting time and lovely to see how proud they are when they write a word which other people can read.

In Maths, the children have been learning about circles and triangles. They have explored the different properties of these shapes using mathematical vocabulary. The have used these shapes to print in playdough and with paint. We have been looking for circles and triangles in the classroom and around school.

In PE, the children showed brilliant enthusiasm in their transport unit. They demonstrated wonderful jumping onto pot holes, running quick around roundabouts as well as pretending to be aeroplanes by travelling along the benches with their arms out to the side.

We rounded off the week with a visit from Sophie from the ‘Life Education’ Team who delivered a PSHE workshop ‘all about me’. The children thoroughly enjoyed meeting Harold the giraffe and learning about ways they can keep their bodies healthy.

Well done to our star of the week and dojo winner.

Homework is set on Tapestry. Have a lovely weekend.
