Y6 Football Competition

On Monday, some of our Year 6 children took part in a football competition at Laithwaite Park in Wigan, with over 40 schools across the Wigan competing against each other. Wood Fold were placed in group B along with 9 other teams, with the top two teams progressing to the quarter finals. The team played phenomenal football in each game, demonstrating brilliant passing and moving, defensive play and shooting at goal. Out of the 9 games in the group stage, Wood Fold won 6 games and drew 3, remaining undefeated throughout, as well as coming top of group B. Making it through to the quarter finals, the team drew the game 1v1, which meant a penalty shootout.

Unfortunately, the team were defeated on penalties, which isn’t a nice way to leave a tournament. However, the boys should keep their heads up high as finishing in the top 8 out of 40 schools is a fantastic achievement. Player of the tournament goes to Louie for scoring an impressive 7 goals throughout the tournament. Great effort Wood Fold!
