This week we started our new topic, ‘Castles and Dragons. The children have shown lots of enthusiasm and are already learning many facts about castles. As it was Shrove Tuesday, we read ‘Mr Wolf’s Pancakes’ by Jan Fearnley in drawing club and enjoyed designing pancakes for Mr Wolf. We even had a go at making our own pancakes for snack.
In Maths, we continued to explore the numbers 9 and 10 and represented the numbers in different ways. The children had a go at creating their own subitising cards and compared quantities to 10.
World Book Day has been a real highlight this week and it was lovely to see the children all making so much effort with their costumes. The teachers in Reception dressed up as characters from ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ and we based lots of our activities around this. It was a very busy day and the children decorated biscuits for their snack; made paper plate ladybirds; painted stones; made play dough ladybirds; made maps and went on a treasure hunt to find the fine prize cow. We had a special visit from ‘Happy Smiles Training’ who talked to the children about living with disabilities.
At the start of the week we planted sunflower seeds for World Down Syndrome Day – the children will be bringing them home later this month.
Well done to all our award winners this week, we are very proud of you.
Have a lovely weekend 😊
