Hi everyone,
What a brilliant (and very book-filled) week we’ve had in Year 6! Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Maths:
We’ve been continuing our work on fractions, decimals, and percentages, focusing on conversion strategies to help us solve tricky problems. The class has been doing a fantastic job spotting connections between these different forms and applying their knowledge to a range of problems and challenges.

Our journey with Darwin’s Dragons is getting even more exciting! This week, Syms found himself washed up on a mysterious island—alongside an unknown flying beast. The children have loved making predictions about what might happen next and discussing the challenges Syms now faces.

World Book Day:
Thursday was all about celebrating our love of reading! We had an amazing time taking part in a story-writing challenge, showing off some seriously creative ideas. The costumes were fantastic: Gandalf, Frodo, Kylie Minogue, and even an Ugly Sister made an appearance! We were also lucky to have a visit from author Alex Winstanley and the Happy Smiles team. Alex writes brilliant books that promote awareness of different disabilities and conditions, and his organization helps empower young people to spread positivity and inclusivity in their communities. It was so inspiring to hear from him.

Art:
We finished the week by diving back into the world of L.S. Lowry, looking at his distinctive style and how he captured everyday life in the industrial North. The children are really getting the hang of his techniques and are excited to start their own pieces soon. We were also blown away to learnt that one of his most famous paintings, 'Going To The Match', recently sold for £7.2million!
It’s been a busy, creative, and inspiring week. Well done, Year 6!
Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you on Monday.
