This week we have been talking about different jobs in the community. The children were excited to talk about their parent’s jobs and had lots of ideas for their own future careers; ranging from being a Spice Girl to a chiropractor! We read ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’ by Janet and Allan Ahlberg and began thinking about the role of postal workers today.
December brought the arrival of Elvis the elf to the classroom and the children have been excited to find out what he has been up to each morning. There are certainly high levels of excitement in Reception this week! The children completed their elf dash in PE on Wednesday, which was lots of fun, and we are very grateful for the sponsorship the children have received.
In English this week we have focused on the traditional tale ‘The gingerbread man’ which has inspired some creative discussion, drawing and writing. The children were delighted to find that they knew all the sounds to write ‘run, run as fast as you can’ and there have been lots of variations on this theme. We even followed instructions to make our own gingerbread for snack on Friday.
In Maths we have consolidated our learning of squares and rectangles and representations of 5. We also talked about night and day, thinking about things we do in the day, and things we do at night.
We started our DT topic, to design a stocking to disguise Christmas gifts. The children have decided on motifs for their stocking and made their first attempts at sewing – I have been very impressed!
It was lovely to meet everyone at parents evening this week – I hope you were all as proud of the children as I am.
Well done as always to our star of the week and dojo winner.
