In ‘Understanding the World’ this week we have been talking about different jobs in the community. The children were very excited to talk about and share their parent’s jobs and had lots of ideas for their own future careers; including, Mr Nobody because you can be invisible, a Doctor and a racing car driver in a red Ferrari!!
An Elf called Jingle has arrived in class this week to celebrate the beginning of December. He has certainly been up to lots of mischief and the children have loved arriving into school each morning to discover what he has been up to! He brought the children a Christmas tree as a gift and left decorations for the children so they could decorate it, which they all really enjoyed. In RE, the children made stars to represent the star in the Christmas Story. They made these into decorations too so the tree looks even better!
For Forest School, the children had lots of fun painting collected pine cones and making them into Christmas Trees! They also all rose to the challenge and drew a squirrel. In PE the children took part in the Sponsored Elf dask which was certainly lots of fun - thank you very much for all your sponsorship monies.
In English this week we have focused on the traditional tale ‘The gingerbread man’ which has inspired some amazing, drawing and writing. The children were have enjoyed being able to write more with the new sounds that they know, such as ‘run, run as fast as you can!’ We even followed instructions to make our own gingerbread for snack.
In Maths we have consolidated our learning of squares and rectangles and representations of 5. We also talked about night and day and read the wonderful text, Night Monkey Day Monkey to explore this concept.
We started our DT topic, to design a stocking for Christmas gifts. The children have decided on motifs for their stocking and chosen colours. They are looking forward to making them!
I really enjoyed meeting you all at parents evening this week and celebrating how well the children have settled into school. I am sure you are as proud of the children as I am.
Well done as always to our Star of the Week and Dojo winner.
